Repairing AutoCAD's Registry

AcroPlot interfaces with AutoCAD by using AutoCAD's ActiveX interface.  While this normally works perfect there are cases where the AutoCAD's ActiveX registry settings may be corrupt and the ActiveX interface may not work properly.

In AcroPlot if you get an error along the lines of "Unable to get AutoCAD's ActiveX interface" then it's likely that the registry is corrupt.  Registry cleaning software can corrupt the AutoCAD registry values and because of it AutoCAD has has warnings in the help files for years about it.  Also uninstalling a version of AutoCAD when you have another one installed on the system can also do it.  Or having multiple versions of AutoCAD installed on the same machine and not running as a Power User can also do it.

Luckily because of the problems in AutoCAD 2004 Autodesk implemented a Registry Repair option on the install CD so you do not have to reinstall the entire program.

First you need to close down and AcroPlot and AutoCAD sessions you have running.  Also make sure that you have full Administrator rights to do this.  Then insert the proper AutoCAD CD.  If you have multiple versions of AutoCAD on the same machine I recommend starting with the oldest one and then follow through to the newest one to repair each one.

After inserting the CD you will see a screen similar to this one.  Pick the Install option.

Then on the next screen we want to pick the Reinstall or Repair option.

And then the Repair Registry option.

That normally solves the problems.  If not you can try the Repair error option.

If for some reason the CD (AutoCAD 2004 and newer) doesn't give you the Install option to repair it then you can try using the Windows Control Panel and the Add/Remove Programs.

If neither of those work then please contact us at www.cadzation.com/support.htm and we will try to figure out what is causing the problem.
