Gastinger Walker Harden Architects is a medium sized firm with a wide variety of project types and sizes. This creates a challenge when developing a consistent printing process through-out the office. AcroPlot has finally given us a solution. It's as easy to use for a one sheet project as a 50 sheet project.  AcroPlot solves batch plotting, print quality and digital information storage/transfer all in one software. This is the solution we have been looking for over the past 6 years! It's user friendly for even the most limited CAD user, very fast and best of all... automatic. Make a few menu choices and walk away. Your full-sized pdf set of drawings is finished and ready for printing.

We have been fighting the chasm between what we can print in our office and what is produced at the printers for years. The result has been unpredictable and different each time there was a new operator on staff. Not to mention the extra day that we had to build into the schedule to account for the time to open all of the sheets and print them and make time for deliveries back and forth, and of course, leave room for possible errors. With AcroPlot, we run the software, print out a test copy in our office and forward an e-mail of the prints to the print company using the same pdf file (in-town or anywhere in the country, it doesn't matter). The results are consistent. Line weights cannot be accidentally mis-printed. It also makes receiving plot sheets from our consultants much easier, as they send us final prints, that they have reviewed, digitally. As an office archive policy, we have been keeping an archive pdf copy of every set that is issued, so it also saves on storage space taken up by bulky drawings that are rarely used. With a full-sized pdf set, there is no need to worry whether the pen sets will be the same when you print the drawings again in 5 years. The line weights are permanent in the pdf and what you see is what you will get.

Another bonus of AcroPlot is that we have seen a dramatic drop in our project printing costs. With AcroPlot, we can quickly print an 11x17 set for in-house use and distribution to our clients. Our clients love it because they can forward drawings to anyone they need too, be it financing for a project or others who would have an opinion about the project. With AcroPlot, we find that we can keep the design team more up-to-date, as we aren't concerned about excessive printing costs when printing an updated set on a more frequent basis, sometimes weekly.

The software is very easy to use. I didn't read any instructions and had it up and functioning the first time in 10 minutes. Any time we have had any problems, which were rare, CADzation has always been very responsive. Usually, we receive an e-mail back within an hour or two, at the most. Now that's customer support!

AcroPlot lets us spend our time on generating quality designs instead of using up project budget on lame operational details like printing.  AcroPlot will accurately & correctly print hundreds of drawing files/pages to a single PDF file with less than 5 minutes of personal interaction. I set up a run for the Houston office the other day that PDFed about 460 cad files and I only needed to charge 1.5 hours to the job - mostly for the time it took to download the files off FTP, unzip, Zip & upload the PDFs, and arrange it all over the phone. I set it up to run overnight, but it only took 65 minutes to do the entire run.

With Adobe, I have had to PDF drawing pages individually, with clicking the custom properties button for each and every page, to get correct output - which means I have to be there and wait for each page to finish before I can go on to the next page, and each page is a separate PDF file. Doing a 50-sheet set of drawings to half-size PDF took 4 hours. Once I got AcroPlot I was able to do the same set in under an hour (AcroPlot is faster, too) or to set it up in 5 minutes at the end of the day and collect the PDF file in
the morning.

In terms of ROI, a full-price AcroPlot license can pay for itself in the very first use - the Houston job would be a good example. I don't even know how to figure ROI on the corporate price.

Finally, there's the question of DWF vs PDF.  It not reasonable to expect our clients to install additional software to view & print DWF drawings - they already have Acrobat Reader installed. PDF files can also contain report text, tables, photo pages, and graphics from Corel & Illustrator. An entire report to be contained in a single PDF file - a feature not available in DWF.
